Imagine you fall into a river.

More than anything you want to get back out at the same point you fell in. So you’re fighting, you’re going against the current, you’re getting hit by sticks and scraping your body on rocks, all to get out where fell in.

But you have another choice, to let the river slowly guide you to a different point and get out there.

Imagine this metaphor while considering your feelings. Rather than fighting them and trying to avoid them, we can choose something different. We can choose to let them go on their course through our bodies and flow on out.
